A glimpse of what waits below. The real story is best discovered in person, but these moments give you a feel for the adventure.
Note: The existing gallery and its real photos stay exactly as supplied, as agreed. The copy below is for the intro and the wording behind each image, the captions and the alt text, which is what earns image search traffic. Pricing and the gallery images are unchanged.
The adventure begins at basecamp
The journey out, a ride toward the unknown
The first descent into a hidden world
That first look inside
Marked walls, shadows and clues
Snapshots from the Trail: What the Wild Side Looks Like
You can read all the descriptions you want. But words do not quite capture how the light looks when it drops through a hole in a stone ceiling. Or how the ocean spray hits the black volcanic cliffs on a windy Tuesday afternoon. This is just a quick look at the raw views you run into out here.
Where the Sun Meets the Dark Underground
The inland tracks are dry and covered in dust. Then you step down into a limestone opening. The air temperature drops immediately.
You want to look closely at the walls when you are down there. The old native rock art is small. It blends into the stone if you move past too quickly. The natural light beams shift across the dirt floors as the hours pass by, so the view looks completely different depending on when you walk in.
The Edge of the Distant Coastline
Most resort pictures show flat turquoise water and calm swimming bays. The windward side is a completely different story. The water there is aggressive. It slams into the ancient shelves constantly.
What to Keep in Mind for Your Camera
Taking photos out here is a bit tricky. The wind is always blowing fine sand around. You need to protect your lens when you are not actively taking a shot.
The contrast between the bright midday sun outside and the deep shadows inside the stone rooms will mess with your phone settings. Do not hurry through the trails. Take a second to let the lens adjust to the dark corners before you snap the picture.
